This article (Tolerance instead of senseless violence! And liberty instead of despotism!) is a translation of a german blog-entry (deutsch): Toleranz statt dummer Gewalt! Und Freiheit statt Despotie!
Must offended sulking lead to excessive violence?
I have no intention of offending anyone. But in case somebody limits themselves, to being a follower of a particular faith, they may perhaps find something in the following, that they could perceive as an offence.
Everybody, who feels insulted, should always think about, whether he is getting in his own way. Sometimes the true problem is the self-image of the person, who feels insulted. A little bit of tolerance never hurted anybody and if necessary you may look elsewhere, when you don’t agree.
Books don’t get better with age

Disproportionateness
Let’s consternate, what we can observe right now:
[Related to the Chalie-Hebdo-Incident in France in 2015 and riots in the middle east.]
Because of the expressions of opinion of just a few people, in another part of the world entire regions get in excessive violent riots. This is completely disproportional and wrong.
Stupid people are easier to lead
Liberty -including freedom of opinion, speech and press- is the basic prerequisit to the use of reason. It seems today both is missing in several places in the islamic world. No expression of opinion can be a sufficient cause for unrestrained violence, murder and manslaughter. And it is in this case obviously directed against people, too, who have nothing to do with those single expressions of opinion. This is unjust.
It is so easy, to incise stupid people and to instrumentalize them politically: You just will have to withhold liberty from them. When we give liberty to the people, then they start to make use of their reason. This leads to tolerance and a relaxation of bindings. This may include, people to recognize, that those so „holy“ books are nothing else than printed paper.
Illiterates always have been impressed by books. Those who are able to read, should have lerned, too, they shouldn’t believe everything they read. Talking about so-called „holy“ books people suddenly believe a lot of things, which are with some reason unbelieveable. And this is just because of tradition and bad education. This way the feeble-mindedness becomes law and content of believe. – I don’t care if something is written in the Talmud, the Bible or the Quran, or where else. They are just books. Nobody should become prevented from thinking for himself by a book.
From uncertainty tolerance has to rise
What would an actual father think, if his daughter tells him, she became pregnant by devine intervention with no man taking part in it? Would he believe her? – And why should a god give rules to the people about their clothing, nutrition and behavior without any reasonable causes to recognize? Why should he determine punishments, which seem to be uncivizised and brutal? – If we wouldn’t know about those books, what impartially would seem to be trustworthy and reasonable? – From any uncertainty tolerance has to rise. Every individual may examine in the light of reason, what he is able to believe, and give the same freedom to anybody else.
Everybody must be allowed to express his opinion – More tolerance!
Anybody may become blessed according to his manner and his faith. But to impose his own imaginations on others, is nothing else than despotism and abuse of power. Anybody has to live with the fact, that others don’t share the same believes, faith, and think it’s stupid, and express their opinion in words and pictures. There should be no punishment for any alleged insults to a religion. Existing penalties should be lifted. Every judgement about it is arbitrary. And it isn’t possible to insult a religion, only humans. But humans should practice tolerance, instead of geting unnecessarily offended and upset.
This violance can’t be justified.
